Back from Hibernation
My eyes are still having trouble adjusting to natural light. My fingers are stiff and sore from countless hours on my Macbook Pro keyboard slaving away at countless Final Cut projects. This has been one of the best summers of my life coming at this blog's expense. I must apologize for the season's lack of new posts and promise you that we have been working hard at building the content necessary to make up for the delay. This has been a hectic few months with Walshy. After our trip to Mexico, where we left you last, Walsh needed a little bit of a 'vacation' so he headed to Tavarua, Fiji for a week of surf and games with the Nixon crew. I on the other hand was left to rehab on Maui and backup the hours of footage we shot while on the road. I had just a week before my flight to Sydney to meet back up with Ian and get back to work and it was one of the quickest weeks I can remember. After a 20 hour travel day I land in Sydney at 9:30 at night and check in to a hotel. Ian is still in Fiji with no phone, computer, or any other form of communication with the outside world. I am simply going by the memory of him telling me he lands in the morning. I check the flight schedule online and find several landing within a few hours of each other so I head to the arrival terminal and sit and wait. As I watch the arrival screen in the terminal I can not help but be reminded of the Seinfeld episode where Kramer and a well off Texan are betting on which flights arrive first. If only there was a Texan in Sydney...After about an hour and a half Walsh appears, looking as though his week in paradise was anything but relaxing. After a brief catch-up at the airport McDonalds he informs me that we had a flight up North that we needed to change as Laurie Towner and crew were driving down to Sydney for a swell. Unable to change our flights, we simply cancel and head to a bar. We spend the weekend getting acquainted with the city while waiting for Laurie to drive down. When Laurie arrives, along with Dane Ward, we make the plan to road trip back to Laurie's house, about 6 hours North, and surf as many spots as we can along the way. We are all frothing at the plan of 'roughing' it for a week and scoring some waves. We get in from our first session just outside of Sydney when we learn of a swell heading to Western Australia. After a few hours of debate, and several smoke screens sent to Benji Weatherly, who just landed on the Gold Coast expecting to meet up with the gang, the tickets are booked to Perth. Stay tuned for what happens when the crew lands in West OZ...
